According to Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com, it is official, the BCS Championship game match-up is set. And for the sixth straight year, the BCS champion will come from the SEC [note: it is now official, see update below].

Sources tell me it's official: LSU-Alabama, the sequel.

Alabama was able to hold off Oklahoma State in the BCS poll despite the Cowboys' huge 44-10 win over Oklahoma. Oklahoma State gained a lot of ground in the coaches poll, with the Cowboys jumping up from fifth to third. But that, combined with the yet-to-be-released Harris bowl, and Oklahoma State's no. 2 ranking in four of the six computer polls wasn't enough to get the Cowboys into the title game.

Instead, we will get a rematch of the November meeting in which LSU defeated Alabama 9-6 in overtime.

[UPDATE] It's official, the BCS title game will indeed be LSU versus Alabama, with the Crimson Tide just edging out Oklahoma State. Eight rankings are used in the BCS formula (2 polls, 6 computers). Alabama is ranked second in four of the rankings, and Oklahoma State is ranked second in the other four. In the end, just .009 points separated the two schools.

Here is the BCS top five...

  1. LSU (1.000)
  2. Alabama (.942)
  3. Oklahoma State (.933)
  4. Stanford (.848)
  5. Oregon (.790)
