Andre Ward vs. Carl Froch: Froch Will Boost Britain's Reputation in Loss

American Andre Ward is a heavy favorite headed into Saturday night's super middleweight title fight against Britain's Carl Froch.

On top of that, Ward has history on his side; in the last 11 title bouts in America, the British have lost nine of them.

But Froch is not an opponent to be taken lightly, as he's won 28 of his 29 professional fights.

Take it from the only man who beat him, Mikkel Kessler: Froch has a chance to beat Ward on Saturday, and the level of competition he's faced so far has a lot to do with it.

Said Kessler, via ESPN:

"If he does his homework, I think Carl Froch is going to win. He is very strong and he wants to fight. Ward is good and fast, too, but I think Froch will win. He will have learned from the mistakes I did against Ward. So many things went wrong for me that night. Another advantage for Froch is the (Super Six World Boxing Classic) history—he had some very tough fights that made him even stronger. So my pick is Froch."

Ward is the favorite for good reason. He's 24-0 in his career, and his game plan going up against his opponents may be just as good as his fighting. In the Super Six particularly, Ward has executed his game plan to perfection.

Both these fighters can battle to the end, and I expect it to come down to a decision in this fight. That being said, it probably means Ward is going to win, because over the course of the fight his smarts and speed figure to give him the edge against Froch.

The best chance Froch has of winning this fight is by stunning Ward with some big punches.

Ironically, he doesn't seem to realize this. Said Froch, via ESPN:

"Ward is not a massive puncher. If after five or six rounds, it's very close, and we are behind on the scorecards, from rounds seven to 12, I will go on the front foot, and take him to the wire."

"Ward is not a massive puncher"—that's the very reason why Froch has the advantage in the early rounds and will likely lose if it goes to decision.

Nonetheless, Froch is a very good boxer with a chance to unseat an American for once. He will give Britain something to be proud of.

He just better come out swinging from the start of the first round.
