Goodbye Gauthier

Pierre Gauthier is gone – and there is joy in Mudville.

Sorry, folks, we aren’t going to shed phony tears for the Ghost. Gauthier brought this mess on himself. If he has a warm, cuddly side, he hides it well. In Montreal, Gauthier alienated almost everyone it was possible to alienate, with the possible exception of Bob Gainey: players, coaches, media, fans.

The question is: why? What can you possibly gain by treating people like they aren’t fit to lick your shoes? All you do is bring more pressure on yourself, your team, your entire organization. When you behave like that and you put together a season that is one long blunder, who is going to come to your defence?
