Leafs Meet Flames Tomorrow, Both In A Playoff Battle

from Damien Cox of the Toronto Star, Despite the injuries, the Flames knocked off high-flying Vancouver in a shootout on Saturday night and have lost only two of their last 10. The Leafs turned Mats Sundin Appreciation Night into an unholy disaster against Montreal, and just 10 days after seeming to make an emphatic statement by hammering the Senators in Ottawa, they are now again flirting with a losing streak about to hit four games, or maybe longer.

You?d still prefer the Leaf lineup if you?re contemplating the future. But with Kiprusoff, Jarome Iginla, minute munchers Jay Bouwmeester and Mark Giordano on the back end and a scrappy group up front, Calgary has frequently shown a hunger since the Cammalleri deal that the Leafs have not demonstrated on a consistent basis this season.

They are two clubs with very little in common but in almost exactly the same position in their respective conferences, both walking the razor?s edge between second life in the post-season and some ugly realities if that life doesn?t await.
