Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey will have to do more tonight against the San Diego Chargers than he did against the Denver Broncos last week.
The former first-round pick had no catches on only one target and was stunningly relegated to the No. 5 wideout spot in Week 9.
This move came after the best four-game stretch of the young receiver's career.
Broncos' cornerback Champ Bailey had this to say following the game (via ProFootballTalk):
I was totally confused. They did the exact opposite of what I expected. I didn’t expect [T.J.] Houshmandzadeh to play as much as he did, being that it was his first week there. You know, I was prepared to match up with Heyward-Bey because he had been playing so well the last few weeks and he didn’t even start the game. He might have played 12 snaps total in the whole game. I mean, he’s their best guy getting off the bump. He’s one of their fastest guys. I’m like, 'I don’t understand why he’s not playing.'
Very odd, indeed.
With the Raiders, anything is possible.
It is likely that Carson Palmer wanted Houshmandzadeh on the field because of their past and the fact that they were working out together prior to being signed by the Raiders.
We will see if Heyward-Bey is incorporated more in the offense tonight.
The same goes for Kevin Boss, an established receiving target and one of Oakland's biggest free-agent acquisitions this season.

He didn't have a catch last week against the Broncos, either, while Brandon Myers took the majority of his snaps.
So, he's battled injuries this season, but I'm still liking my chances with Boss blocking, running down the seam and in the red zone better than any other tight end on Oakland's roster.
Don't be surprised to see these two back on the field in an increased role against the Chargers.
I understand Jackson for trying to tailor his offense around Carson Palmer, but what's wrong with a big, speedy wideout and a veteran tight end with sure hands?
Heyward-Bey was just starting to prove himself, then he's on the sideline for the majority of the game?
It doesn't make sense.
