RAFAEL NADAL WINS FRENCH OPEN

Rafael Nadal

In case there was any confusion, Rafael Nadal is still the king of the clay.

The top ranked Nadal defeated Roger Federer three sets to one (7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1) to win his sixth French Open title, tying Bjorn Borg's all-time record. The final set was Nadal's most impressive.

Rain suspended play briefly in the second set with Nadal up 5 games to 4.

Federer made things interesting in the third set. Nadal was serving for the match up 5-4, but Federer won three straight games to force a fourth set.

Nadal reasserted his dominance in what would be the final set of games. The Spaniard exhibited excellent and unrelenting defense leading to a 6-1 victory in the final set.

Federer did play well, but he could not duplicate his impressive upset of Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. Federer has been defeated in the French Open Finals five times by Nadal.
