Chicago Blackhawks: Jonathan Toews Having His Best Season Yet?

One would think how could Jonathan Toews have a more superior season than last season?

Toews spent time in Vancouver helping bring home the Gold Medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics.  Along with a shiny new medal, he was also named the Most Outstanding Forward.

The Chicago Blackhawks also went into the playoffs in 2010 as the Stanley Cup favorite.  They won the division for the first time since the 1991-92 season.

Following the division title, the Blackhawks finally brought the Stanley Cup to Chicago with key support from their captain.  Toews also went on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, showing that he beyond doubt gave his all in the Stanley Cup Finals.

How in the world could he top last season?  While it's doubtful he will, he can undeniably better his career numbers and the success of his team.

After a dreadful start for the Blackhawks, Toews included, it looked like the playoffs were already being tossed to the side in November for Chicago.

Toews' scoring suffered, an issue many of Chicago's other core members faced.  Yet, one of the only constants was his faceoff draws.

His vigorous style of play and heart was still there for the team.  Unfortunately, it was not turning into anything but hard work.

Coming to the All-Star break was a near phenomenon for the struggling captain and his team.

Four Blackhawks (Toews, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith) travelled to South Carolina for the All-Star Game.

With Kane being named as Nicklas Lidstrom’s alternate captain, the right choice was made by choosing Toews to be on their team.

Toews tallied 1 goal and 2 assists to help Team Lidstrom win the first-ever fantasy draft for the NHL All-Star game.

Now that the All-Star break is long gone, he seems to be the rejuvenated player he was last season.

He rarely struggled, but now he can be considered unstoppable.

For the month of February, Toews registered 21 points in just 13 games.  Eight of those were even multiple point games.

Currently Toews is sitting on top of the world with 61 points, winning over 57 percent of faceoff draws and was name NHL Star of the month.

So, what's left for this 22-year-old captain?  A Hart Memorial Trophy?

It is a possibility, if he can keep this All-Star caliber performance up to the end of the season and into the playoffs.   This may not be his best season compared to 2010, but it sure is a remarkable one.

Derrick Rose Video: Watch His Amazing Through-the-Legs Pass To Joakim Noah

Derrick Rose has gotten a lot of attention for his amazing crossover dribbles and drives through the lane, but he's a pretty accomplished distributor too. If you have any doubts check out this through the legs pass to Joakim Noah.

Noah's return is starting to really help the Bulls, especially if Rose and Noah can keep connecting like this.

Allegedly Racist Clippers' Owner Offers Free Tickets To Underprivileged Kids For Black History Month

donald sterling los angeles clippers

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been accused of racism on more than a few occasions, which makes his latest action all the more puzzling.

Sterling took out advertisements in the Los Angeles Times offering free tickets to 1,000 underprivileged children in celebration of Black History Month.

It's confusing as to why Sterling is choosing to celebrate Black History Month in March as opposed to February, and also a bit telling that he seems to assume that all of the underprivileged children will be black.  That has led some to question Sterling's motives.

LarryBrownSports.com speculates that this is purely a public relations stunt by Sterling.  The theory is that since kids aren't the biggest consumers of the newspaper, many of these tickets will go unclaimed.  And even if they are, parents must still buy their own tickets and pay for food and parking.

We don't know if Sterling thought this through that carefully, but it is ironic that a man that has demonstrated distaste for other races would be making a big deal out of Black History Month.
