Week 2 Fantasy Projections: Stephen Hill and Rookies That Are Must-Starts

Stephen Hill went from an undrafted wide receiver in fantasy football to a must-start player after the first week of the season.

The New York Jets' wide receiver had five catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Buffalo Bills, earning 20 points in standard leagues.

While 20 points is what many people expect from their No. 1 receiver, Hill surprised many. Because of that, his ownership went up 29.8 percent in ESPN leagues.

This week, Hill and the Jets travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, who where outsmarted by Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos last week.

Hill will likely see Keenan Lewis covering him, as Ike Taylor will focus on Santonio Holmes, who is still considered the No. 1 receiver for the Jets.

Mark Sanchez seems to have found his favorite target. Whether that was to give him confidence after a horrible preseason or Hill was just that open, we'll never know.

One thing is for sure, if it's not broke, there's no need to fix it. It worked going to Hill last week and Sanchez will likely go there again in Week 2.

But Hill isn't the only rookie that owners must start in Week 2. Here's a look at other rookies that you should consider putting into your starting lineup.

QB Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins

Saying RGIII is a must-start in fantasy can get mixed reactions from many fantasy owners.

While some won't hesitate to place him in their starting lineup, others are still hesitant. They want to see him put up the numbers he did against the New Orleans Saints a few weeks in a row.

Still, it's hard to argue that RGIII's 320-yard performance didn't turn some heads. RGIII also had two touchdown passes and 42 yards rushing for a 24-point Week 1 fantasy performance.

RGIII and the Washington Redskins will be facing the St. Louis Rams in Week 2. While the Rams did hold the Detroit Lions to 27 points, I think most of that can be attributed to Matthew Stafford never getting comfortable in the pocket.

Like Drew Brees, RGIII showed he could spread the ball around, as four different players caught at least three passes. In addition, four other players also caught at least one pass to make a total of eight receivers the Washington quarterback found.

The Rams looked good in the secondary against the Lions, as Cortland Finnegan and Janoris Jenkins combined for 16 tackles, two interceptions and three pass deflections.

Unlike the Lions, who really only have Calvin Johnson at receiver, the Redskins have a plethora of receivers who will get the ball. When the ball does come Finnegan's or Jenkins' way, they'll have success.

But what about the rest of the time?

RGIII will put up basically the same numbers this week, giving many owners good numbers at the quarterback position.

TE Coby Fleener, Indianapolis Colts

The tight end position is one of the hardest to fill in fantasy. With only a few elite guys, many owners find themselves filling the position with hopes of having a big week from the player they started.

However, for fantasy owners who took a flier on Fleener, many were impressed with his six receptions for 82 yards in Week 1.

While I can say that I wasn't surprised since he and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck were college teammates, I didn't expect 82 yards receiving for the rookie. For those in a points-per-reception league, they love it even more as he garnered 14 fantasy points.

The one issue owners want to see is Fleener getting into the end zone, which I'm sure will happen sooner rather than later.

The Colts still have a lot of problems on both sides of the ball, but the Luck-Fleener combination is one fantasy owners will love for years to come.

DE Chandler Jones, New England Patriots

While many leagues don't play with an individual defensive player, they are still a large part of some leagues.

For those owners who play with IDPs, the New England Patriots' rookie defensive end is a must-start in Week 2. In Week 1 (against the Tennessee Titans), Jones had five tackles and one sack, which is good coming from the defensive end position.

This week, the Cardinals come into town to play the Patriots. With the struggles of quarterback Kevin Kolb, Jones is going to have multiple sack opportunities. I could see at least two sacks and five more tackles this week.

My only caution in this is that if you only have one defensive position player, a linebacker is more suitable for your team. But, if defensive line is a position on your roster, Jones is a guy worth picking up and starting.
