For the second straight week, teams ranked in the Preseason AP top 25 have shown that voters really have no clue what they are doing. A preseason top 10 team has fallen once again.
Yes, Michigan's loss to Alabama in Week 1 was not an upset, but the performance by the Wolverines showed that they were undeserving of the No. 8 ranking they were given by voters.
Arkansas is the latest preseason top 10 team to fall. Unfortunately for the Razorbacks, their loss came to Sun Belt Conference member, UL-Monroe. The Warhawks shocked Arkansas 34-31 in overtime.
Granted, an injury to quarterback Tyler Wilson hurt their game plan, but the Razorbacks were outplayed by UL-Monroe.The Warhawks out-gained the Razorbacks 557 yards to 376 yards.
The bottom line is that if a team truly belongs in the top-10, a loss like that would not happen.
In another shocker, the 13th-ranked (No. 12 in preseason) Wisconsin Badgers lost 10-7 on the road at Oregon State. The Badgers showed once again that voters had them extremely overrated. Wisconsin struggled at home in Week 1, defeating FCS team Northern Iowa 26-21.
Not that it's needed, but for more proof of how invalid the preseason poll is, take a look at Nebraska.
The Cornhuskers started the year ranked 17th and moved up to No. 16 after a Week 1 victory over Southern Mississippi.
That ranking will change after a Week 2 loss at UCLA. The Bruins knocked off the Huskers 36-30 and out-gained them 653 yards to 438 yards. The loss of running back Rex Burkhead cost them, but there are questions on defense with this team that must be answered.
Upsets happen all the time in college football. 2012 seems to already be the year of the underdog.
That being said, all of these losses by ranked teams cannot be a fluke. The preseason voters clearly got many things wrong this season.
Hopefully, they will take notes and actually pay attention for 2013.
